George the son of Charles Van Traver and Nellie Virginia Cramer was killed in action in the Pacific theater in World War II (see below).

PUBLIC SERVICE FOR G. TRAVER
Chatham Marine Was Killed At Tarawa Nov. 20

A public Memorial Service will be conducted this coming Sunday afternoon January 20th at 3 p. m. for Private first class George H. Traver United States Marine Corps, of Chatham, who was killed in action Nov. 20, 1943, in the battle on Tarawa.

The service will be held in the Methodist church, Chatham, with the Rev. Charles M. Adam, pastor of the church, officiating.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles V. Traver, Church street, Pfc Traver was the recipient of the Purple Heart award for wounds received in the battle on Guadalcanal, in November 1942.

Born in Chatham on May 7, 1918, Pfc Traver attended the local school and had scores of friends who mourn his death.

Besides his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Spencer Charles of Chatham and Frank J. of the U. S. Navy; also two sisters, Mrs. Lyle Baily of Pittsfield, Mass., and Mrs. Katherine Traver of Chatham.
