Hornbeck, James W.

Age 78 of Pine City, formerly of Carriage Estates passed away Fri. Aug. 1, 2014 at his home with his loving family at his side following decling health. Born on Dec. 7, 1935 in Elmira, NY; Jim was the son of the late, William A. & Mable L. Collins Hornbeck.

He was employed by SMT Sales, Elmira Heights for many years until his retirement. Jim enjoyed woodworking, writing poetry, building toy trains, music and was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

He was a dedicated family man and is survived by his loving family; wife and companion of 52 years, Barbara Somers Hornbeck, Pine City; children, Peggy (Todd) Hadlock, Elmira; Thomas (Theresa) Hornbeck, Elmira; and James (Rebecca) Hornbeck, Pine City; 6 grandchildren, Sabrina, Brittany, Katey, Devon, Dylan, and Brandon; 3 great grandchildren, sisters, Jean (Harvey) Houston, CO; and Barbara (Robert) Russell, Wellsburg; sister-in-law, Sharon Hornbeck, Wellsburg; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents,

Jim was predeceased by his brother, Robert Hornbeck in March of this year.

Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport/Elmira on Mon. Aug. 4, 2014 between the hours of 4-6 p.m. Funeral services will take place there on Tues. at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Krista Mendoza officiating. Graveside services will follow in Fitzsimmons Cemetery, Southport. Special thanks to CareFirst and to Deb & Rick Allen for their care, compassion, and friendship. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church, 256 S. Walnut St. Elmira, NY 14904 in Jim's memory.
