on Stewarts Creek near the Surry Co, NC line and where they lived out their lives.

NOTE

From David Andrew Sturgill's Book:
There is some question about the identity of Rebecca, wife of William.

My grandmother, Tabytha Fowlks Sturgill, said that her grandmother Fowlkes was a Hanks, and other descendants of William and Rebecca have the same tradition. "

This tradition is supported by existing letters written in 1887 and 1897 in which Matilda Hanks, D/O Samuel Hanks of Surry Co., NC, addressed grandmother and her sister Phoebe as "cousin".

There is no way this and other known family relationships could be, unless Rebecca was a daughter of James Hanks of Wilkes Co., NC.

Shortly before 1810 the family moved to Sullivan Co, TN, but were in Wythe Co, VA in 1820.
