Rev. George Peny Taylor, 71, of
the Chestnut Ridge section of
Route 1, Honaker. died Sept. 30,1995
at his home.
Born in Honaker, he was a son
of the late Cleveland and Molly
Hess Taylor.
He had resided in the Honaker
area his entire life and was a
member of the Venia Chapel
Freewill Baptist Church at
Venia. He had served as a minister
in the Freewill Baptist
Church for more than 25 years
and was a veteran of World War
II, having served in the U.S.
Army. A retired coal miner, he
was formerly employed by
Clinchfleld Coal Company and
was a member of the United Mine
Workers of America Local 1426.
He was preceded in death by
one daughter.
Survivors: wife, Treva I. Taylor;
daughters, Dorothy V. King of
Verona, Mahala Ball of Honaker:
Mary Lou Pettit of Conway, SC;
sons, George P. Taylor Jr., J.W.
Taylor, the Rev. Kenneth M.
Taylor and Homer C. Taylor, all
of Honaker, Masel L. Taylor of
Jacksonville, FL; sisters,
Charmie Shucker of Prince
George, MD, Lucille Alderson
and Maudie Blankenship, both
of Honaker; brothers, Dewey
Taylor, Leo Taylor and Ellis
Taylor, all of Honaker, Amos
Taylor of Centerville, TN; 23
grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren.
The funeral was conducted
Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. in the Honaker
Funeral Home Chapel in
Honaker with the Rev. Guy
Harris officiating.
Interment followed in the
Thompson Cemetery on
Chestnut Ridge near Honaker,Va.
