Howard Lake Herald, 5 April 1917 - Jane Shaver died from a paralytic stroke brought on apparently by the excitement attendant upon the departure of the local recruits to the Army and Navy, among the number being Mrs. Shaver's nephew, Walter Ritchie. She suffered a stroke immediately after the train had gone and before leaving the depot. She passed away during the night without regaining consciousness.
