Kathryn (Wilkerson) Simmons passed away due to complications from Parkinson's disease, Thursday, July 31, 2014, just 11 days shy of her 91st birthday, at Kavanagh House with family by her side.
Kathryn was born August 11, 1923 in Carlisle, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond Wilkerson and Mildred (Blake) Wilkerson. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a wonderful cook, always making sure everyone was well fed. Her love of children was a joy that not only included her own, but extended to the children in the neighborhood. Her capacity for love was without measure.
Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Trudy (Tom) Dolezal; son, Tracy (Janis) Simmons; daughter-in-law, Sherry Simmons; grandchildren, Ty, Tadd, Terra, Connor, Claire and Max; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Albert "Speck" Simmons and son, Terry.
According to Kathryn's wishes, cremation has occurred. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Kathryn will be inurned next to her husband, Albert at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
