Rita is survived by her daughter, Rita L. Jones and husband Danny; her daughter Laurie S. Truesdell and partner Kim Watt; her daughter Caroline Winchester; her son Thomas J. Maiolo and wife Susan; her son Joseph P. Maiolo and wife Michelle; and her sisters Alice Dean and Janice Stokes. Rita was pre-deceased in life by three sisters and four brothers. Rita is also survived by twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren who dearly loved their Mema.
Rita was totally devoted to her family and one of her greatest joys was preparing country, home cooked meals for her family to enjoy together. In Rita's retirement years she enjoyed traveling, collecting antiques, water aerobics with her dear friends, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her grand-dog Harley who adored her.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita's memory may be made to Transitions LifeCare (Hospice) of Wake County or Rex Cancer Center. The family wishes to thank the amazing staff at Transitions LifeCare who provided Rita with extraordinary and loving care during her final days.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18 in the Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 2911 S. Wilmington St. Raleigh, N.C. A private entombment will be held later.
