Ross Richards Cook, age 73, passed away peacefully at sunset, April 12, 1997, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Ross was born in Murray, Utah, on January 31, 1924, the fourth child of Erma Louise Richards and Thomas Calder Cook. He graduated from South High School in 1941, then enlisted in the military and served stateside in the Navy and Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war, Ross returned to his job at the Union Pacific Railroad, which he would continue for 43 years. He married Mary Ronald Sanders on January 31, 1948. In 1949, Ross graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S. degree in Economics. In 1959, he began an income tax preparation business which flourished until 1991, when his illness precluded work which he highly enjoyed.Ross was a man of varied talents and he possessed a unique personality and sense of humor. As a young man, he became an accomplished violinist. In later years, he enjoyed skiing and especially golf. His vast knowledge of history and world affairs impressed everyone who knew him. To his tax clients, Ross offered personal, reliable and resonable service, the old fashioned way. To his family, Ross gave no less. He was a tough, hard worker with a heart of gold. Family was Ross's joy, especially during his retirement years. He loved being "Grandpa." He constantly offered his time and resources to all in need. His comical wit and sense of humor entertained many. He had the ability to make people laugh unexpectedly. He had a nickname for everyone in the family.

"Ross, we thank you for being Husband, Dad and Grandpa. Your character, honesty and light will shine in our hearts forever. We love you very much."

Survivors include Ross's wife and tireless, loving caregiver, Mary; brother, Guy; children, David, Don, Ann, Barbara and Barry; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the kind staff at South Valley Care Center.
