Chris Schmidt Obituary
HARDIN - Chris Schmidt, 88, of Hardin, passed away Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, in the Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 12, 1915, in Burnstad, N.D., a son of John and Christina Eckman Schmidt. He was one of 12 children. In September 1930 and at the age 15, his family moved to the Hardin area.
Chris married Margaret Blansky on April 11, 1939. The couple farmed in the Dunmore area and later moved to North Valley, where he farmed until Margaret's death. They had three children, Chris, Selma and Peggy.
He later married Pauline Junker Enzminger on June 18, 1971, in Hardin. He sold his farm in the North Valley and helped whenever and wherever needed on the Enzminger Brothers farm until his retirement.
In the early years of his married life and before TV, music was the way of entertainment. He especially enjoyed Gospel, Western and Spanish music. He played several instruments and played for neighborhood birthday parties.
Chris was a member of the Church of the Open Bible, where he served as a board member and usher.
His parents; five brothers; three sisters; a granddaughter, Delphine Struck; and stepsons, Marvin and LeRoy Enzminger, preceded Chris in death.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline of Hardin; his children, Chris (Kathy) Schmidt of McDougal, Ark., Selma (Dick) Struck of Hardin and Peggy (Andy) Chavez of Sheridan, Wyo.; his sisters, Esther (Richard) Kraft of Sumner, Wash., Ernestine Schneider and Helen (Delmer) Wittmayer of Hardin; his brother-in-law, Fred Blansky of Hardin; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, in the Church of the Open Bible. Interment will follow in the Hardin Fairview Cemetery.
Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
