A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD. Interment will follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.

Visitation:

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 4, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with prayers recited at 7:00 P.M. in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A.

John Woodley Morgan, 81, of Helen, MD passed away surrounded by his loving family on July 30, 2014. Born on September 13, 1932 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the loving son the late Joseph Johnson and Cora Burch Morgan. John was the loving husband of the late Alberta (Hattie) Bowles Morgan, whom he married on December 29, 1951 in Leonardtown, MD. John is survived he his children: Dennis Morgan (Catherine McLaughlin) of La Plata, MD, Joe Morgan of Mechanicsville, MD, David Morgan (Alice) of Leonardtown, MD., James Morgan of Largo, MD, Mary Morgan, Christine Pirner (Mack) and Michael Morgan all of Helen, MD, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and companion Barbara (Bobbie) Burch. Siblings: Gladys Weber, Phyllis Wathen, Gordon Morgan, Ellen Armiger, and Stella Bowles. He was preceded in death by his children: Donald Morgan, Wayne Morgan, siblings; Lala McLaughlin, Ethel Hardesty, Christine Morgan, Hilda Ward, and Edward Morgan. John attended St. Joseph Catholic School and lived in Bryantown for 20 years, then returning to St. Mary’s County in 1990. John was a lifetime farmer; he loved to fish, hunt, oyster, watch TV, and was a member of the Mechanicsville Moose Lodge. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 4, 2014 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers: Billy Joe Morgan, Cliff Morgan, Elvis Wathen, Jesse Morgan, Phillip Morgan, and Billy McLaughlin. Honorary Pallbearer will be J. P. Weber.
