Elaine M. Freiburger, 88, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Davenport Lutheran Home.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 4, 2014 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. She will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society.

She was born in Burlington, Iowa on July 27, 1926, the daughter of Amand C. & Cleo F. (Williams) Durr. On November 1, 1960, she was united in marriage to John Francis "Jack" Freiburger in Utah. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2006.

Elaine and John were owners of Freiburger Construction in Davenport for 38 years.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Davenport, the Red Hat Society and the Class of ‘44 Davenport High School Group that faithfully met for lunch every month.

Among the things she enjoyed were traveling, helping others, keeping her home and life organized and taking pictures. She faithfully remembered all of her family members on their birthdays with a special card. She treasured spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Patricia McClendon of Davenport, Penny (John) Kaczinski of DeWitt, Iowa, Kathy (Dan Grinstead) Williams of Davenport, Patricia (Rick Bermel) Freiburger of Muscatine, Iowa and Peggy (Kevin) Smith of DeWitt; her sons, John (Merry) Freiburger of LeClaire, Iowa, Mike Gugelmeyer of Hazel Green, Alabama and Richard (Jinx) Gugelmeyer of Davenport; thirty grandchildren; fifty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; her sister, Shelley (Bob) Beeck of Lost Nation, Iowa; her brother, Dale (Karen) Durr of Long Island, New York; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Dean Gugelmeyer; her second husband, John F. "Jack" Freiburger; her grandsons, Eric and Manny; her great-grandsons, Cole and Christopher; and her brother, Larry Durr.
