Enlisted for the duration of the war on 6/10/1861 at Monticello, ARK, he was mustered into Capt. Whittington's Company, Arkansas Infantry, as a Private. (This company subsequently became Company C, 3rd Arkansas Infantry.)
Absent, Arrested on June 10 to Aug 31, 1861 Roll.
Listed on Jan & Feb 1862 Roll as Absent, Sick at Berryville, VA.

The 3rd Infantry Regiment, assembled at Lynchburg, Virginia, in June, 1861, contained men from Ashley, Drew, Desha, Hot Spring, Union, and Dallas counties.
Arguably the most celebrated regiment fielded by Arkansas during the Civil War, the Third Regiment, Arkansas Volunteers, served in Virginia from its inception to its surrender at Appomattox Court House. For most of its service, it was an integral part of the famous Texas Brigade, "Lee's Grenadier Guard," of the Army of Northern Virginia.
