Mr. Burlison was one of Wardell's senior citizens who lived in Wardell a little past 60 years, having come here in early 1919. He bought a farm north of Wardell and still owned it plus more land he purchased through the years.
He and his wife, Lillie, and two small children, Ruth (Meadows) and Woodrow, moved into an old log house of the earlier years, but built a 5 room bungalow later on the western side of the farm which at that time joined the woods on the northern boundary. They lived there several years before moving into Wardell. Later they moved this house to Wardell for renting purposes, where the telephone exchange now stands. The house later burned down. Through the years, Mr. Burlison, along with his family owned and operated a store in Wardell and also, he and his son Woodrow were involved in the McGinly Land Operation. I was unable to contact his son to learn the exact part they played. He was also a member of the Wardell Rotary Club and on the School Board for many years. He was active in all civic affairs and played a part in the development of the area through the years.
He built a lovely home in the country, a number of years past. Mrs. Lillie Burlison passed away six years ago.
He later married Mrs. Bonita Marler who survives.
Out-of town relatives who were here due to his passing included his son, Congressman Bill D. Burlison, wife, daughters and son of Washington, a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Meadows and son, Eddie of Cape Girardeau, a sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jack McAuliffe and daughter, Mrs. Bertha Blendlein, a niece, Mrs. Agnes Sklaron, a nephew, Pat and Will Burlison of Flint, Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. Ella Spain of Benton, Ill., Mrs. Ella Mae Adams and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Eldridge of Marble Hill Mo., Mr. Dennis Marler of St. Louis, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Mason of Grand Haven, Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Sample and son, Terry, and daughter, Jean, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Pat Burlison, Mrs. Edna Weaver of Senath, Mrs. Morrison Hall of Hornersville and many others whose names are unavailable. One son lives at Wardell and some grandchildren. One granddaughter lives in Mississippi whose name I do not have.
We extend deepest sympathy to the family and all the relatives.
