Carl was born to German immigrant parents. He came to Canada in 1908, where he became a farmer. In 1922, he brought his wife Margaret and their daughter Teresa from Creston, Iowa. Mary Anne and sons Carl & John were born in Saskatchewan. They moved to Wilcox in 1930.
