He graduated from Salyersville High School, class of 1961, and attended electronics school in Ashland, KY.
Willard moved to Stockbridge in 1963 where he was received by a host of "Allen" relatives who became very dear to him. He truly was a man who loved his family. He loved the outdoors and was an avid coon hunter. Willard loved farming, but he found his real love of creativity in the electrical and building industry.
In 1968 Willard became an electrician through Local 252 in Ann Arbor and in 1984 he went into business for himself, purchasing Harper Electric. Although he had no formal carpentry training, he became a gifted carpenter and built 23 houses in his "spare time," doing 90% of the work himself. It was through this love of electrical and building that he met and enjoyed so many people for he truly was a people person.
Willard's love and kindness touched many and he expressed his love through his knowledge and generosity to others.
Willard is survived by his wife Annabell (Risner), sons Dudley and Brian (Kaci) Howard, grandchildren Andrew, Elizabeth, Alexis, Madison, and Hailey Howard, great-granddaughter Aria Ellis, and sisters Teddy Lynn (Esknovah) Jackson, Rosamond Lovely, and Gathel Salyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kinner and Maude Howard, brother DH Howard, sisters Waunetta Howard and Minerva Lovely, parents-in-law Claud and Bertie Risner, sisters-in-law Delores Carroll and Betty Risner, and brothers-in-law Jerry Risner, Earl Salyer, and Rayon Lovely.
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge, with Pastor Dennis Courter officiating.
To express Willard's love of others, in lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated that donations be made to the Willard Howard Memorial Fund c/o Stockbridge State Bank, to benefit local families in need.
