Sylvia Alice Caldwell Sheppard, age 91 of Springville, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011. She was born October 1, 1919 in Gunnison, Utah to Earl M. and Ila S. Jorgensen Caldwell. She married Rex Sheppard December 8, 1937 in Manti, Utah. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple, May 17, 1963.

Sylvia was an active member of the LDS Church and served in several callings including Primary, Scouting, Relief Society and as Ward Librarian for 19 years. For a short time, she worked as a school lunch lady. Sylvia was an exceptional cook and was known throughout the county for her sweet rolls and divinity. She loved to quilt and crochet and was also a member of a bowling league. Her greatest love was spending time with her children and grandchildren, fishing and camping.

She is survived by her children: Helen (Allen) Perry, Hal (Anita) Sheppard, Roy (Marlene) Sheppard, and Donna Johnson; sister, Bula Montague; 16 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex; daughter and son-in-law, Robert and Ila Ann Hulce; sister, Blanche Lowder; and brothers, Edwin, Floyd and Don Caldwell.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2011 at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S., Springville. There will be a viewing at the mortuary Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
