Arlington, Mass. - Born on Aug. 7, 1930, in Boston, he was the son of Bernard and Avis DeVoto. He grew up in Cambridge and attended public and private schools, graduating from Cambridge High and Latin School in 1949. He studied at Boston University and Wentworth Institute, and served in the U.S. Army between 1952 and 1954, earning the Korean Service Medal.
For 19 years he was employed by the Arlington Cab Company.
Mr. DeVoto was a well-known personality with many friends in Arlington Heights. A tireless and dedicated reader, he had a large and well-chosen collection of books which will be donated, according to his wish, to the public library in Rollinsford, NH..
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Mark DeVoto and Lois Grossman of Medford and two nieces, Emily DeVoto of Washington, D.C., and Marya DeVoto of Portland, Ore.
At his request, no funeral services will be held.
