Travis A. Foster, age 50, of Doggett Road, Forest City, N.C., died Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at his residence.

Born May 27, 1964 in Rutherford County, he was the son of Jimmy Foster and Linda Butler Foster who reside in Forest City.

He was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1982 and also attended and graduated from Lenoir Rhyne University and Western Carolina University. Travis worked for CNC as a staffing coordinator and district manager for several years. While following his passion as an educator, he taught at Burke Alternative School in Morganton and was instrumental in forming the Engleman Charter School of Arts in Hickory. His concern and heart for students led him to Burns Middle School, where he taught "at risk" students and also coached football and golf. Later his desire to teach would lead him to be the "More at Four" teacher at Sunshine Elementary School for ten years along with his assistant Carol Brush. Travis enjoyed making people happy and making a difference in the lives of others. He was a member of Floyd's Creek Baptist Church, where he was the unofficial "hugger" of the congregation.

Travis was a volunteer for the Special Olympics and loved music, reading, creative writing, body building, gardening, doing yard work and was a sportsman. He was a hard worker and dedicated to his family and to his community.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jarrett Foster; grandmother, Connie T. Butler; grandparents, Glen and Bernice Foster; aunt, Mary Helen Metcalf and beloved pets, Solomon, Lazarus and Slider.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of fourteen years, Tracy Foster; brother, Brian Foster and wife, Kim of Wilson, NC; grandfather, James "Bud" Butler and wife, Jean of Forest City; two uncles, Ron Butler and wife, Cathy of Asheville and Jerry Foster and wife, Donna of Shelby; two aunts, Joyce Hughey and husband, Dean of Gaffney and Brenda Dalton and husband, Jimmy of Ruth. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Floyd's Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Carnell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
