William Nelson Golden was born 3 July 1868 to William Reed Golden and Katherine Kendall Foster. His grandparents were William Golden and Janet Crossen and Ebenezer Foster and Achsah Culver. On February 20th, 1892 he married Clara Beulah Van Amburg of Chicago, Illinios. C Beulah's parents were Edward Van Amburg and Eleanor Sadilla Colborn. William and Beulah had one daughter Kathryn S. Golden. She died on November 8th, 2011 in St. Petersburg, Fl. She was 104 years old. William was in charge of physical education at YMCAs in Syracuse, NY and Johnstown and Williamsport PA, before taking a position at Penn State. William was Director of Athletics at Pennsylvania State College, from 1890 to 1912. He coached football and baseball. He remained on the football staff as an assistant coach until 1909 and served as a recruiter for two years. He was also, the athletic trainer for two years at Purdue University. At one time he was general manager of the Equitable Life Insurance Company of Pittsburgh, PA. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1939. He died August 30, 1949 at 81 years of age, after a brief illness. Believed to be buried near his daughter Kathryn Golden at Memorial Park Cementery in St Petersburg, FL.
