Funeral services for Mrs. Nelda Sue (Monk) Johnson will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014 in the Rush Chapel, Oakdale with Reverend Dennis LaFleur officiating. Interment will follow in Union Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale. Mrs. Johnson, 58, of Oakdale entered eternal rest on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 in her residence surrounded by her family.
Nelda was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She owned and operated Johnson Pre-K for eighteen years and owned and operated A Touch of Class Flowers and Gifts for over ten years. She was a great Christian lady who loved the Lord. Her greatest joy in life were her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Dorothy Monk; two brothers, Harold “Butch” Monk and Gerald Wayne Monk.
Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory include her husband of thirty-six years, Elvin “Jack” Johnson of Oakdale; one son, Jeffery Johnson of Oakdale; three daughters: Patricia Johnson Butts and her husband, Jerry of Grant, Denise Johnson Marler and her husband, Sam of Oakdale, Melissa Johnson Strother and her husband, Jason of Oakdale; seven grandchildren: Austin, Connor and Maribeth Butts, Maggie and Paisley Marler, Brady and Katelyn Willis; a special niece, Kelly Garris; a special friend, Sharon Fontenot; three brothers: W.D. Monk, Bruce Monk and Jimmy Monk; two sisters: Peggy Guidry and Nora McMorris.
