Hope and Louis were the parents of 8 children. He was a mechanic and served at the captain of the Dow Fire District for a time.
In addition to her work as a homemaker, Hope was employed by Principia College in Elsah, Illinois for 23 years. She was a cook/cashier and manager of the Soda Fountain Shoppe until her retirement in 1985.
Hope and Louis were members of the Dow Southern Baptist Church. She was also active with the QEM Fireman's Auxiliary.
She had been married to Louis for 69 years at the time of his death in October of 2010.
Hope lived until 2014 when she passed away at Alton Memorial Hospital following a short illness. She was 88 years, 5 months and 28 days old.
She was survived by 4 sons and 4 daughters-in-law; 4 daughters and 4 sons-in-law; 26 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Ruth Ann Hoyt of Dow, Illinois.
In addition to her husband, Hope was preceded in death by her parents; 1 daughter-in-law, Deborah Blackorby; an infant granddaughter, Jenna Blackorby; 1 sister, Ione Czaia; and 2 brothers, Frederick Hoyt and Milton Hoyt.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on 01 Aug 2014 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, Illinois. Funeral services were conducted at 9 a.m. the following morning at the Down Southern Baptist Church in Dow. Hope was buried next to her husband, Louis.
The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the church or to the QEM Fireman's Auxiliary.
