Thomas Jefferson was the son of David Choate Sr. and Sarah Clark. His oldest brother David Choate Jr fought at the battle of San Jacinto and his father assisted the troops camped there by slaughtering some of his cattle and feeding them. They were both award land grants in Harris county for their services.

He married Eliza James Cole in Harris Co. Texas in 1842 and they had one daughter Sarah Margaret Choate.

When Thomas died his older brother John Choate was made administrator of Thomas's estate and guardian on his daughter Sara Margaret.

His estate was surveyed and all debts were paid. John paid four thousand dollars for the care of Thomas wife and daughter and resident. He also paid $3 for his coffin but his final resting place has yet to be determined, it was either in DeWitt County where he died or San Patricio county where John lived and later Sarah and Eliza as well.


His brother John Choate was murdered at his home in San Patricio County in 1869. His wife and niece Sarah moved to Aransas County Rockport, Texas and buried John and his cousin John Crockett Choate side by side at the Rockport Cemetery. Eliza and Sarah Choate Terry are buried close by.
