He was a biochemist at the National Institutes of Health for over 50 years, achieving emeritus status; a member of the National Academy of Science for his work with Anatol Morell in isolating the first cell receptor. He was a pioneer in the study of cell receptor. He was a gentle soul who loved research; very modest. His wife was Dr. Edna Fleischman who died October 3, 2004 in Bethesda, Maryland ( also cremated).
