Clara Emma (Fleming) Freeman, 79, of Southaven, MS met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. She died peacefully in her home from lung disease caused by severe asthma. Clara battled poor health for many years; however, despite her physical condition, she trusted in God's faithfulness until she met Him face to face.

Clara was born on March 13, 1935, in Parker, PA. She was the only daughter of Howard and Lenora Fleming. Clara graduated from Cranberry High School in 1953, and the Oil City Hospital School of Nursing in 1956 as a registered nurse. She was married to Jay on Aug. 25, 1956, in Franklin, PA. As an Air Force wife, she moved many times with Jay, but all their assignments were in the continental U.S.; therefore, upon Jay's retirement they traveled extensively abroad to include a three month trip around the world.

She was the director of nurses at several nursing homes and was the first director of nurses at the NW Florida Home Health Agency. She worked alongside Jay when they owned Mr. A's Deli in Valparaiso, FL and they invested in several real estate properties in the greater Fort Walton Beach, FL area. She loved their farm in Baker, FL and created many fun family memories with her grandchildren.

Clara had an insatiable sweet tooth and all who knew her, knew it had to be chocolate! Passing up a good buy was not an option, which made her the absolute queen of sale shopping. Clara insisted on a hair appointment every week at Angelica's, a perm every three months, and her beautiful hands and flashy nails were the envy of all her friends. She was a snappy dresser and accessorized each outfit making her stunningly beautiful as she gave you one of her million dollar smiles. Clara was a gracious hostess and fabulous cook, and cultivated the same passion for entertaining in her children. Most of all she loved her family surrounding her, especially for the holidays. Family times were extremely important to her and always brimming with an abundance of pictures and stories. Clara and Jay have three children, seven grandchildren who affectionately called her "Nana," and one great-grandchild.

Clara loved Jesus with all her heart, mind, and soul. She was a long time member of Shalimar United Methodist Church. Over the years, she was active in many civic and church organizations. Before her death, she was a member of the Torchbearer's Sunday school class at Longview Heights Baptist Church in Olive Branch, MS. When she wasn't involved in a Bible Study, she enjoyed having Scripture read to her; Clara was a prayer warrior. She was able to share her faith to others as a Volunteer Assistant Chaplain at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and later to her many doctors, nurses and staff while she was a patient.

Clara is survived by her husband, Jay Freeman of Shalimar; children, Vicki and Dan Nevill of Southaven, MS, Debbi and Win Knudsen of Madison, AL, and Jeff and Sharon Freeman of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Blake and Rachel Nevill of Joplin, MO, Scott Knudsen of Atlanta, GA, Clarissa Freeman of Albuquerque, NM, Stephen Nevill of Hattiesburg, MS, Sydney Freeman of Albuquerque, NM, Deborah and Emma Nevill of Southaven, MS; and great-grandson Benjamin Nevill of Joplin, MO. She is survived by two siblings, Margaret (Peggy) Davis of Stuart, FL, and Robert (Bob) Johnston of Brownsburg, IN. She was predeceased by sister, Alice Klink of Crestview, FL.

A graveside service for family and friends will be at the Beal Memorial Cemetery, in Fort Walton Beach, FL, on Friday Aug. 1, 2014, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Go World Missions, Inc., P.O. Box 253, Southaven, MS, 38671, http://goworldmissions.org/#/contact-donate/4549273186. Funeral arrangements were handled by Hernando Funeral Home in Hernando, Miss. 662-429-5260, www.BrentwoodFuneralServices.com.
