From his daughter, Find a Grave contributor Terri Rickert (#47990106):

Born in Los Angeles, would travel to Corbett Oregon for his 3 months “summer vacations” and stayed with his cousins Toot & Doris Evans.
About 1943 in an accident at school another boy stabbed Norms eye with a pencil which resulted in him loosing the eye.
In 1952-1956 Norm attended San Jose State University California and Oregon State University to gain his Masters Degree.
On 18 June 1955 Norm married Fay Jeanne Griffin a fellow San Jose State student.
He commenced teaching Industrial Arts in 1957 at Mission Hill High School Santa Cruz California. In 1958 he taught in Walnut Creek California. In 1959 the family (wife Fay Jeanne and children Terri born 1956 & Lane born 1958) moved to 2309 Oak Knoll Drive Santa Rosa California where Norm taught at Cook Junior High Santa Rosa California until June 1969.
In 1961 Shannon was born, 1962 Heidi and 1964 Garth was born.
August 1963 saw Norm take Leave of Absence from Cook Junior High to travel to Australia for a “Working Holiday”. They had 4 children aged 6 years to 10 months. Norm taught for 11 weeks in Melbourne and 11 weeks in Sydney. The rest of the time was spent travelling Australia staying in a floorless tent. Arriving back in Honolulu on 1 July to stay with Fay Jeanne’s Grandparents. Sept 1964 moved back into 2309 Oak Knoll Drive Santa Rosa with Garth being born 5 Oct 1964.
Oct 1969 saw the Rickert family migrate to Australia.
Jan 1970 Norm started teaching at Marist Brothers High School Lismore NSW Australia.
In Nov 1970 Norm bought a farm at Rous Road Tregeagle NSW Australia. The family moved there in Dec 1970. The house didn’t have a “toilet”. It had an outside out house “can” that Norm buried daily. Some neighbors didn’t have home phones or electricity. There was no water to the house. It was a few challenging months with 5 young children.
By Easter 1971 they had a new kitchen & “real inside” toilet, and a shower with water.
In June 1985 Norm was diagnosed with an aggressive Astroglyoma Brain Tumor grade IV, Primary, also called Glioblastoma. He was rushed to a Private Hospital in Brisbane Queensland where they removed the tennis ball size tumor. With prognosis that he would die before Christmas 1985. He died at 8:15am, 13 Sept 1985 at “home”, Rous Road Tregeagle New South Wales Australia in his eldest daughter, Terri’s, arms, after being cared for at “home” June to Sept 1985.
