Singer, Actress. A popular concert and recording artist, she also appeared in numerous film and television productions. Born Kim Soo-jin, she took to music early and while still in high school joined the pop band Pansuduel, participating in their 1990 album "Ponsoo II". Moving on to the three girl ensemble Cool, she shocked audiences by sporting a shaved head and was heard on 1994's "The K;ul", but in the mid 1990s took the stage name Yoo Chae-young and launched a solo career. She had a major hit with the 1999 CD single "Emotion", then in 2002 made her silver screen bow in "Whistling Princess" and that same year was seen in the popular comedy "Sex is Zero". Over the next years she was in several movies including the 2007 sequel "Sex is Zero 2" and appeared in a number of small screen series, among them the 2004 "First Love of a Royal Prince", "Marrying a Millionaire" (2005), which was loosely based on the American reality show "Joe Millionaire", and 2009's "Fashion King". She had her own quite successful radio show on MBC, released a 2009 album entitled "Another Decade", and earned her final credits on the 2013 "Rollercoaster". Last seen in public at a September 2013 concert, she was diagnosed with gastric carcinoma the next month. Despite surgery and aggressive chemotherapy, she died of metastatic disease leaving a number of her performances available on DVD.
