Clara passed away after a nine-day trip that she had been planning for several years to her place of birth. On this trip she was accompanied by her daughter, Sandy, son, Clay and his wife, Debbie, and close friend, Denise. Clara visited places she remembered from her youth and shared stories with family and friends.
Clara was born in in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, to the late James and Susie Abbott. Clara met LeRoy J. Arnold (U.S.Army SMG Ret.) on a blind date and they were married on July 1, 1950. Clara and LeRoy moved numerous times with LeRoy's 20 year career with the Army. During her husband's two tours in Korea and one in Vietnam, Clara bore the full responsibility of parenting her surviving children. Clara was a committed and devoted follower of Jesus Christ for most of her life and openly credited her remarkable strength and courage to His grace.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and first born daughter, Mary.
Survivors include her daughters, Debbie Montange and husband, Jay, of San Antonio, and Sandy Simmons and husband, Kenneth, of Copperas Cove; sons, Dan Arnold and wife, of Linda, of McKinney, and Clay Arnold and wife, Debbie, of Roscoe, Illinois; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
