James E. VanMeter, Sr., of East Boston MA, formerly of West Virginia, passed away on November 30, 2008, in the Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was 74 years of age. James was born in Mason, West Virginia, on July 9, 1934, to the late Okey and Katie (Nollige) VanMeter.
He served his country in the US Navy and was a decorated veteran of Korea and Vietnam. James worked for the MWRA for many years as well as the Nissan Bakery. He was past President of the East Boston Friends Club, late member Orient Heights Yacht Club, Winthrop Yacht Club, Revere Moose, and Beachmont VFW.
Husband of Cheryl (Johnson) VanMeter. Father of James, Jr., of Florida, Timothy of Chelsea MA, and Janine VanMeter of South Boston MA. Grandfather of Billy, Christopher, Lucas, James III, Timothy, and Amanda. Also survived by his loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, and his beloved "Skippy."
Predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters.
