Alfred C. Dunlap, 88, of Chicora passed away at his home early Monday morning.
Alfred was born in Butler on June 16, 1924. He was the son of Harold H. and Josephine C. Pontius Dunlap.
Mr. Dunlap was a U.S. Army veteran, having served as a medic during World War II.
He was a member of the Karns City United Methodist Church, a life member and past commander of the Dierken Ritzert American Legion Post 642 of Chicora and a life member of the Dexter Leroy Donaldson VFW Post 7876 of Chicora. He belonged to the Happy Hunters Club of Fenelton. He enjoyed playing the violin, hunting, golfing and the company of his dog, Buster.
He was married in Chicora on Feb. 20, 1950, to the former Mary G. "Jean" Burns. She preceded him in death on July 27, 2008.
Alfred was employed as a welder at Armco in Butler. He retired in 1983 following 38 years of service.
Surviving are two daughters; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Robert P. Leech.
DUNLAP - Friends of Alfred C. Dunlap, who passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wade Berkey, pastor of the Chicora United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Glenn Kohlhepp, a retired United Methodist pastor, officiating.
Interment with full military honors accorded by the American Legion posts of Chicora and Bradys Bend and the VFW post of Chicora will follow at Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Dunlap's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675, or to VNA Hospice, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.
