Snookie was formerly employed as a housekeeper at the Leland Hotel. A beautiful, strong, gracious, and kind woman, she devoted her life to her family. She was one of the earliest members of Maddox Memorial Church of God in Christ and was a member of the Mother’s Board. Although she could be stern at times, her sweet nature and genuine care for people was always present. In her free time, Snookie enjoyed knitting, quilting, and crafting.
Roberta is survived by three daughters, Lillian Scott and Karolyn (Jimmie) Coffee, both of Mansfield, and Mary Elizabeth Clark of Pittsburgh, PA; a son, Jim E. (Doris) Tolliver of Buffalo, NY; five grandchildren, Bryant Scott, Marvinetta Scott, Billy (Diane) Boyd, Tyann Coffee and Shan (Crystal) Coffee; many great and great-great grandchildren; a special nephew, Merle (Josephine) Stewart of Mansfield; and many other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas James in 1998; daughter, Shirley Andrews; grandson, Galvin Boyd; and sister, Mary Stewart.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 5, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Memorial Church of God in Christ, 1148 Walker Lake Road, Mansfield. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial in Mansfield Memorial Park will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Maddox Memorial Church of God in Christ.
