Marvin Everett "Kildy" Beck, 77, of Grottoes, died Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Kildy was born in Grottoes on June 21, 1931, and was a son of the late Frank M. and Jessie (Foley) Beck. He is preceded in death by a brother, Harry W. Beck, and a sister Helen Beck Peters. Kildy is survived by a sister, Leona Ruth Reidenbaugh of Taneytown, MD. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Madeline Beck of Grottoes, one nephew, Harry W. Beck, Jr. and wife Phyllis of Mt. Sidney, five nieces, Linda P. Hutchinson of MD, Margaret "Peggy" Morris of Weyers Cave, Kathleen B. Andes and husband Jerry of Grottoes, Maria Beck and husband John Eisenberg of Richmond, and Sue Ellen R. Adkins of FL. Kidly is also survived by a number of great nieces and nephews, and many neighbors who provided great support and friendship to him in his advancing years, including a special friend, Barry Shoemaker. Our family wishes to express love and gratitude to Kildy's best friends, Randy and Becky Hylton, and their boys, Josh and Brady, who have lived across the street from Kildy for 17-years. This family exemplifies the best of what we admire, and what has been lost, in many neighborhoods; caring for your neighbor, and opening up your heart to someone who was unique in many way, Kildy's quality of life was positively impacted by his friendship with this family. . Kildy resided in Grottoes his entire life, from 1931 until his passing on Sunday. Kildy was a very active member of his community, spending much time visiting with his neighbors and friends. Generations of Grottoes residents have vivid memories of Kildy walking around town as a young man and sporting around on his moped in later years. Kildy will be missed by his community upon which he has left an indelible mark. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00PM Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes, with Pastor Guy Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Port Republic Mutual Cemetery Port Republic. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00PM Tuesday April 28, 2009 at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the home of Madeline Beck at anytime.
