STEPHENVILLE - Herman M. Carter of Stephenville, a retired rancher and livestock judge, died of natural causes Saturday at a Stephenville hospital. He was 81.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Stephenville Funeral Home. Burial will be in West End Cemetery in Stephenville.

Mr. Carter was born in the Pigeon community of Erath County and lived in San Angelo for 45 years before moving to Stephenville in 1989. He taught in schools in Cherokee, Sylvester and Sterling City for 20 years before becoming a rancher.

Mr. Carter was a livestock judging team coach and judged livestock at 4-H and FFA shows in Houston, Fort Worth, San Antonio, El Paso and other cities for several years. He was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ in Stephenville.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Stephenville Foster Home, Box 978, Stephenville 76401.

Survivors: wife, Rosemary Carter of Stephenville; daughter, Tomasine Sanders of China Spring; brother, Eugene Carter of Quitman; sister, Mrs. Robert Halbert of Stephenville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
