Stephens "Steve" Royce Phillips, 85, went to be with his Heavenly Father on July 26, 2014, with his loving wife, precious daughter and granddaughter by his side holding his hand. He was born on September 16, 1928 in Mankin, TX to Annie Josephine and David Ezra Phillips.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ellen; daughter and husband, Sheila and Cary Amundsen; granddaughter, Cassidy Rice; and two sisters, Lois Baird of Longview, TX and Beatrice Macdonald and husband John of Charlottesville, VA. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Loyd Phillips and J.N. Phillips, two sisters, Jewel Baldridge and Frances Gruner Streight, and two nephews, Eddy Baird and Neil White.

Steve was the 6th of 7 children, and came from a hard working farm family. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he entered sales, calling on industrial and commercial accounts across Oklahoma. Later, he started his own business selling oilfield supplies. Steve's passion was going to the lake with his family. He especially enjoyed taking his daughter and her many friends, teaching them to water ski and making homemade ice cream. He adored his granddaughter and was so proud of her achievements. He was actively involved with Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, taking youth groups to the lake for water skiing and boating. Supporting the SNU basketball program was a high priority for many years, never missing a game or special activity. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Thunder basketball. Steve was a man of few words who was always behind the scenes making things happen, never wanting to be acknowledged for his endeavors. He was a strong Christian, wonderful husband, loving father, father-in-law, and "the best Poppa ever!"

Services will be Wednesday, July 30, 2:00pm at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, with interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
