Confederate soldier with the 5th Alabama Co. G. Calvin was apprenticing in the carriage building business and was in Alabama when the war broke out. Enlisted at Livingston, Alabama on April 5th, 1861. Captured in battle at Hagerstown, MD on September 15, 1862. Exchanged on November 10th, 1862 at Aiken Landing, Va. Wounded at the battle of Chancellorsville on May 2nd, 1863. Captured again at Petersburg, Va. April 2nd, 1865 and taken to Pt. Lookout Maryland. Took Oath of Allegiance to the United States on June 21, 1865.
