Dick was the son of Theodore Phillip and Ida Elizabeth (Roth) Winters. He followed his father's footsteps and became a carpenter and all-around handyman. He married Laura "Violet" Brown and one daughter was born into this union.

Herman Richard Winters, 75 of 613 Van Fossen St died yesterday (January 16, 1978)
Mr Winters was born Sept 3, 1902 at Henry, W.Va., a son of the late Theodore Philip and Ida Roth Winters. He was married to the late Laura Violet Brown Winters and was an electrician before retiring; was a member of the United Methodist Church. Surviving is a daughter Mrs. Patricia Ann Evans, 613 Van Fossen St. Winchester, with whom he made his home; a brother Ernest Clyde Winters of Saratoga, Wyoming; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Jones, of Akron, Ohio and Mrs. Hattie Rotruck of Albuquerque New Mexico and two grandchildren. funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is at Jones Funeral Home. ( He was eventually buried in Bayard Cemetery when the ground became unfrozen)
