A soldier from Turlock is one of four American soldiers killed in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan on Monday.
Special Forces soldier Chad Gonsalves, 31, died when a bomb exploded near the armored vehicle in which he and three others were riding. The troops were in a mountainous region in the Uruzgan province. They were accompanied by Afghan soldiers. It is unclear if the local soldiers suffered casualties.
According to his family, Gonsalves was raised in Turlock and is the father of six-month-old twins.
The Pentagon reports the bombing was followed by a firefight with militants. The U.S. launched an air attack in retaliation.
Gonsalves is the 12th serviceman from the northern San Joaquin Valley to die in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
