"Joe was born in the Winchell Community of Brown County on March 5, 1930, to Jack and Pearl Pierce. He was the youngest of nine brothers and sisters. He married the love of his life, Betty Joyce, on December 21, 1968. He served in the Navy from 1948-1950 and became a Mason in 1964. As a young man, he worked as a postal carrier, as well as a policeman. Joe later began his 30-year career with State Farm Insurance and retired in 1992. He was also a farmer and rancher for many years in Tom Green County and Runnels County.
"He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Pierce, two daughters who adored him, Deborah Ticer and husband John of Midland, Texas, Jenny Kading and husband Todd of Coleman, Texas, one step son, Richard McCullough and wife Anna of Bangs, Texas. He had six grandchildren, Debi Masters and husband Mick, Zachary "Pierce" Doyle, Kaeli Kading, and Heather, Mindy, and Kayla McCullough. He had six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia "Jenny" Smith of El Campo, Texas, several nieces, nephews, and some very dear friends.
