Son of Alfred James and Annie Eliza (nee Kerrison) Adams. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 27 November 1914 and embarked from Melbourne for active service abroad on 2 February 1915 per HMAT "Clan McGillivray (A46). He served in Egypt with the 10th Battalion (Service No. 1302). He returned to Australia on 28 April 1915 and was discharged medically unfit on 15 May 1916. He died of tuberculosis in the Military Hospital, Bedford Park, South Australia, aged 24 years.

He was accepted for commemoration as war dead on 13 September 2016.
