Roger Beidler of Amherst passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013, at his residence. He was the husband of Jacqueline Williams Beidler. Born September 8, 1937, in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of the late Neil John Beidler and the late Dolores Schaeffer Atwater.

Mr. Beidler came to Amherst in 1960 and soon became active in community affairs. He served on the Rescue Squad and Retail Merchants Association. He was a former president of the Amherst Lions Club and was elected first chairman of the Town of Amherst Industrial Development Authority in 1971. He served on the Town's Police Department Auxiliary during the 1960s through the 1980s. He was elected to the Amherst Town Council 10 times from 1966 through the late 1980s and he was elected for a term as Mayor in 1992.

He worked as a real estate broker and trainer, insurance agent, auctioneer, and taught real estate related classes at Central Va. Community College. He served several terms on the Central Fidelity Bank Board of Directors. He was a member of the Church of the Epiphany in Amherst where he served many terms as Senior Warden.

In addition to his parents Mr. Beidler was preceded in death by his sister Carol Beidler Shearer. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Denise Beidler Jackson (Mark) of Marysvale UT, N. Daniel Beidler (Becky) of Fishersville VA, R. Eric Beidler (Cristina) of W. Jordan UT and Natalie Beidler Mayhew (Jeromie) of Hurt; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a niece and nephew.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, December 30 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 332 South Main St., Amherst, VA 24521. A reception will follow the service.
