Daniel, 73, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2014 in Spring Arbor, Michigan, after a battle with cancer.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Neoma Campbell Berry, son James (wife Sue) of Springfield, VA, son Gregory (wife Maya) of Chantilly, VA, daughter Sharon Nagel (husband Paul) of Oak Hill, VA, three grandchildren Daniel, Johanna and Kate, sister Judith Berry Jennejahn (husband Carl) of Hamlin, NY, and many loving in-laws, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Sara (Holmes) Berry of Wilson, NY and by his sister Priscilla Berry Smiley (husband Tom, living) of Rantoul, IL.

Dan enthusiastically served many Western NY United Methodist churches during his pastoral career: Knowlesville, Warsaw, Rush, Orchard Park, Harris Hill, Portville and West Seneca.

After retiring and moving to Spring Arbor, he became a chaplain at Arbor Manor and soon became beloved by everyone who knew him as a genuinely caring man.

In addition to his regular ministry, Dan served his communities in other ways. He was an EMT and chaplain for the Rush and Harris Hill Fire Departments. He donated to plasmapheresis more than 400 times and is in the hall of fame at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute. He was a leader and great supporter of The Walk to Emmaus, encouraging many and changing lives.

Dan enjoyed different hobbies over the years including bowling, racquetball, rock collecting, fishing, golf, and watching sports. He loved to travel and spend time with family, especially his grandchildren.

He had a quick wit, rarely complained and never said a bad word about anyone. Dan displayed God's grace, sharing comfort to many over his lifetime.

A celebration of his life was held at Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church Wednesday, July 30, Reverend Daryl Dexter and Reverend Darold L. Hill officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Jackson Area Emmaus (Walk to Emmaus) Jackson, MI.
