Ronnie was born June 27, 1948, at Bruin, the son of Dorothy Mae Sloas Whitt of Sandy Hook and the late Beecher Yates.
He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Don Whitt; his stepmother, Phylis Yates; brothers Beecher Yates and Charles "Steve" Yates; and three nephews.
Ronnie was a Vietnam veteran and was retired from the U.S. Army as a command sergeant major. After retirement he worked as a military logistics manager.
He is also survived by his wife, Emina Rohr Yates of Columbia; a daughter, Tara Yates and husband Glen Gosse of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; four granddaughters, Kelly Gosse, Ashlee Gosse, Emily Gosse and Kristena Gosse, all of Murfreesboro; a great-granddaughter, Savannah Maskovyak; brothers and sisters James (Vivian) Yates of Olive Hill, George (Arlene) Yates of Sandy Hook, Randy (Sandy) Yates of Frankfort, Donnie (Kim) Whitt of Grayson, John Whitt and Shan Shayles of Carmel, Calif., Margaret (Darrell) Smith of Sandy Hook, Janet (Woody) Caudill of Morehead, Jenanne (Eric) Pearson of Williamston, N.C., Sandra (Ervin) Markwell of Sandy Hook and Karla (Steve) Dinkins of Windmere, Ga.; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook, with military rites by Elliott County VFW Post 11428.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
