George W.C. Dykes Jr., age 87, of Hazlehurst, died Friday, June 02, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Dykes was born April 04, 1930 in Dade County, FL to the late George Walter Dykes, Sr. and the late Evie Marie Hayes. He was retired from the United States Air Force with 23 years of service as a Medic, and later becoming a Registered Nurse. He is preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Jean Herrington and brother, Jimmy Dykes.

Survivors include his wife, Marliss Collette Dykes of Hazlehurst; daughter, Gayle Dykes of Lyons; sons, George Dykes III of Lyons and Thomas Franke Dykes of Dublin; step-daughters, Wanda Cornellier of Phoenix, AR and Cheryl Massey of Tempe, AR; step-son, Paul French of Austin, TX; sisters, Lucille Mincey of Hazlehurst and Alice Stone of Hazlehurst; brothers, James Dykes of Hazlehurst, Tommy Dykes of Hazlehurst, Johnny Dykes of Douglas and David Dykes of Atlanta; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home .

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 06, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Northgate Baptist Church with Rev. Jinker Horton officiating. Interment will follow at Union Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with full Military Rites.

Mr. Dykes will lie in state one hour prior to service time.
