MUSCATINE, Iowa--Daryl Lee Mitchell, 74, of Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2013, at his home in Muscatine surrounded by his family.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013, at Calvary Church Family Life Center, followed by lunch. Graveside Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013, at the Aledo Cemetery, Aledo, Illinois, with full military rites by Mercer County VFW Post 1571.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Community of Christ Church, Calvary Church, American Cancer Hope Lodge Iowa City, or plant a tree in memory of his love of nature.

Daryl was born on April 2, 1939, in Aledo. Illinois, son of Loren and Doris Close Mitchell. Daryl graduated from Aledo High School in 1957. He was married to Gail Evelyn Lindburg from June 1963, until her passing in 1980. He later married Linda Stalkfleet Pretz from Muscatine, on May 22, 1992.

A veteran of the United States Army, Daryl served 2 ½ years in Germany.

Daryl farmed for a number of years in Aledo, Illinois, and was employed for 21 years as a Security Guard at Grain Processing Corporation, Muscatine, retiring on April 1, 2006.

His memberships included Community of Christ Church, Muscatine, Cedar Valley Research and Recovery Metal Detecting Club and Iowa Gold Prospectors Association of America. Daryl loved history, nature and the great outdoors. His hobbies included reading, metal detecting, gold prospecting, photography, fishing and camping. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and attending activities in which the grandchildren were involved.

Daryl is deeply loved and remembered by his wife, Linda Mitchell of Muscatine; son, Randy Mitchell and wife, Maria, of Port Byron, Illinois; daughter, Penny Morter and husband, Samuel, of Muscatine; a step-daughter, Tamara Pretz and husband, Kevin Mitrisin, of New Deihl, India, a step-son, Michael Pretz, and wife, Dayle, of Columbus Junction; grandchildren, Moriah, Shiloh and Araunah Morter, Zoe Mitrisin; Megan, Kelsey and Tommy Pretz, Matthew Smith, Michael Youngs; great-granddaughter, Adalynn Youngs; three sisters, Carrollyn Hunt and husband, Bill, of Sparland, Illinois, Nancy Blythe and husband, Michael, of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Patti Mitchell of Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Gail; and a sister, JoAnne.
