Nancy Ruth Collier Sherman, 91, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014. Graveside service: 1 p.m. Monday, July 28, in Greenwood Memorial Park. Nancy was born in Fort Worth on Sept. 14, 1922, to James Collier and Nellie Lee Homan Collier. She graduated from R.L. Paschal High School in 1940. She attended John Tarleton College for a year, then joined the war effort. She married W.C. "Bud" Sherman in 1945. Nancy and Bud were later founding members of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, where she served as volunteer church organist for several decades. After raising four sons, she returned to school in the early '70s and graduated from UTA with a bachelor's degree in nursing. Nancy had a longtime interest in genealogy, connected with her membership in the DAR, the Daughters of 1812, and similar heritage organizations. She held office in several of these organizations, at both the local and state levels. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, and by her son, Winn. Survivors: Nancy is survived by sons, Clayton, Lee and Chris; and granddaughter, Cindy Sherman.
