Mr. Earl Wesley Kennedy, Jr., age 83, of Armuchee, passed away Friday morning, July 25, 2014, at a Rome, GA hospital.

Mr. Kennedy was born December 17, 1930 in Birmingham, AL, son of the late Earl Wesley Kennedy, Sr. and the late Bernice Beason Kennedy Asbury. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War as a Disaster Photographer.

Mr. Kennedy continued to use his talent as a photographer, working at General Electric for 38 years retiring as a Reprographic Supervisor. He was a multi-talented individual having his Pilot's license, being a CERT trainer and a YMCA Gold Star SCUBA instructor at Cumberland Academy, YMCA, Shorter and Berry Colleges.

Mr. Kennedy was also the 1st Commander of the Civil Air Patrol in Rome.

His talents, wisdom and influence will be missed in our daily walk, and he will be often fondly remembered.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Shirley Abello Kennedy, Armuchee; five children, Charlotte Iva Kennedy, Rome, Michael Joe Kennedy, and his wife, Vicki, Armuchee, Sherri Kennedy Payne, and her husband, Phil, Jackson, GA, Staci Pitts, and her husband, John, Silver Creek, and Diane Lewis, Rome; two brothers, Carey Kennedy, Birmingham and David Asbury, Gadsden; eight grandchildren, Brad Kennedy, Megan Whatley, Justin Mullis, Brooke Gill, Kristen Laguna, Korey Pitts, April Long and Emily McCart; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and close friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at 3:00pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel and Crematory, with the Rev. Pieter deBruijn officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel and Crematory, on Sunday from 2:00pm until the service hour. At other hours, they may be reached at their respective residences.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel and Crematory, on Sunday at 2:30pm and include: Active: Brad Kennedy, Korey Pitts, Phil Payne, Max Laguna, Chris Gill and Jamie Long. Honorary: John Pitts.
