David Washburn

Poughkeepsie - David Washburn formerly of Poughkeepsie entered into rest on October 24 at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center at the age of 55. The son of the late James and Jean Washburn of Poughkeepsie was born on October 19, 1957 in Rochester Minnesota.

David served in the Army and in the Reserves. He was retired from New York State as a Security Hospital Treatment Assistant. He was a very charming person who everyone liked. David was involved in many programs at the Castle Point VA and considered the people there a second family. He collected baseball cards and comic books and loved music. He loved going to the movies with his sister Margaret and going to his sister Jeans house for swimming and dinner. He will always be loved and remembered by his sister Ann as Dapper Dave with the sly smile. He loved hanging out with his sister Mary and having burgers by the pool. He was a beloved brother and will be sadly missed. The fond memories will always make us smile when we think of him.

A family statement reads: We would like to thank all the Doctors at New York Presbyterian and Castle Point VA for all the love, care and hope they gave David during his illness .The MHICM team. Special thanks to Dr. Frank Lancellotti, Chris Stewart, Lisa Caraisco, Dr. Preston, Elaine Cottle, Gale Siegel and Dr. Valla. To the staff at McClelland Home and his friends there your support was everything to him and our family. Thank you!

David is survived by his sister Ann Becker and her husband Bob, Mary Kuenneke and her husband Karl, Margaret Klawson and her husband Kevin, Jean Kuenneke and her husband Frank and nieces and nephews Michael Becker, Brian Becker, Cara Becker, Ashley Kuenneke, Erich Kuenneke, Meghan Klawson, Brittany Klawson and Frank Kuenneke. He is also survived by his aunts Kathleen, Elizabeth and Helen and their families.

Per David's wishes there will be no visitation a memorial and grave side service date and time to be announced. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations can be sent to VAMC to help fund programs and events for the veterans at Castle Point VA. Checks should be made payable to "VA Hudson Valley Healthcare System" or "VA Hudson Valley" and addressed as follows: VA Hudson Valley Healthcare System ATTN: Voluntary Service VAMC Castle Point Castle Point, NY 12511.
