George W. Eakins married Amanda Tilton on January 9, 1832, in Highland Co., Ohio.

His obituary from The News-Herald, Hillsboro, Ohio, August 3, 1893, Page 8 read:

"George W. Eakins

The subject of this sketch was born in Hamer township, Highland Co., Ohio December 15, 1810 and died at the old homestead near New Market July 15, 1898, aged eighty-two years and 7 months.

He was married to Amanda Tilton January 9th, 1832. This union was blessed with eleven children; nine sons and two daughters and with the exception of two who died in infancy, all were raised to manhood and womanhood.

"Uncle George" as he was familiarly called, was widely known. He was out-spoken saying just what he had to say, then he was done. A better and more accommodating neighbor never lived, and a more honest man never drew the breath of life. His children all live in this county except one son and one daughter. The son lives in Missouri and the daughter at Lineville, Iowa. All of them, except Joseph of Missouri, were permitted to be with their father in his last illness. Mrs. Donohoo of Lineville, Iowa and Mrs. Wm. Nesbit of New Market were at his bedside continually for the last three weeks, ministering to his wants and trying to alleviate his sufferings, leaving nothing undone to make their father's last hours his best hours on earth. But all to no avail; God said "Enough, come up higher."

He was followed from the old homestead where he had resided for the past seventy years, by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends to the silent city of the dead at Pleasant Hill where appropriate remarks were made by Rev. John Naylor of Hillsboro from the 90th Psalm, after which his body was laid by the side of his companion, who preceded him across the silent river twelve years ago. Father, rest, thy sufferings all are o'er.

Peace to his ashes.
