DEATH OF A PIONEER OF NORTH PASADENA.
PASADENA, July 20 - Mrs. Edith Painter, widow of one of the pioneers of North Pasadena, and mother of the proprietor of Hotel La Pintoresca, died this morning at her home at the corner of North Fair Oaks avenue and Mountain street, in her seventy-eighth year. She had been in failing health for a number of years, and critically ill for several weeks.
She was born in Columbiana county, O. (Ohio), August 5, 1821. In 1842 she was married to the late J. H. Painter, and three years later, they removed to Iowa while it was still a Territory. In 1880 the family came to Pasadena, where they have since resided. Perhaps no other family has been more closely identified with the upbuilding of North Pasadena, the development of water and the improvement of property than the Painters.
She was a lifelong member of the Society of Friends. Four children survive, M. D. painter, Mrs. Charles E. Tebbetts and Mrs. Esther Michener of North Pasadena, and Mrs. Dr. Michener of Los Angeles. The funeral will be held at the house Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock.
