Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 31 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Macon Road Chapel with the Reverend Bill Davidson officiating. A private family burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until service time.
Mrs. Baker was born in Rutherford County, Tenn., on May 2, 1918, daughter of the late Jack Gooch Batey and Ann Watkins Smith Batey. She graduated from Smyrna High School in Smyrna, Tenn., and David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tenn.
Mrs. Baker had lived in Columbus since 1945 and was a charter member of Edgewood Church of Christ. She worked with the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at The Medical Center Hospital for many years.
Her husband, James Earl Baker, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Lyn Baker Williams of Columbus and Martha Batey Baker of Atlanta, Ga.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Charlene Baker of Hamilton, Ga.; two sisters, Martha Uffelman of Nashville and Mec Berry of Smyrna, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Sarah Batey Williams of Columbus and Lindsay Baker Shaker of Macon, Ga.; a grandson, James Earl Baker III of Athens, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice, 850 Brookstone Centre Pkwy., Columbus, GA 31904 or to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909 or to a charity of your choice in memory of Sarah Searcy Batey Baker.
