Bob Wess Nelson's Celebration in Heaven began July 24, 2014 at the Hospice House of Laurens County.
He was a native of Laurens County, and was born on June 12, 1928 to the late John Lewis and Minnie Pulley Nelson.
Mr. Nelson was a member of Holly Grove Baptist Church where he attended faithfully, served as a deacon, and taught Sunday School for many years. He was a retired superintendent from Clinton Mills, and a US Army Veteran, having served his country during The Korean Conflict. His most treasured roles in life were as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Campbell Nelson of Laurens; his four children, Ellen Nelson, Anita Nelson Barrett, JoAn Nelson Ball (Carl) and Robert Wessley Nelson; his six grandchildren, Marcus Hodge (Meghan), Colton Hodge, Margaret Nowell (Mark), Dawn Barrett Sherfield (Reid), Daniel Ball (Jessica), and Catherine Ball; his five great-grandchildren, Dillon Sherfield (Chasity), Kaitlin Sherfield, Jessica Sherfield, Grayson Ball and Marilyn Ball; his brother Thomas Edward Nelson, and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his sisters, Bernice Nelson, Catherine Nelson Adair, Gladys Nelson Penland, Belle Nelson Fallaw, and brothers, Joel Nelson, Henry Nelson, Lawrence Nelson, Augustus Nelson, Earl Nelson and Ralph Nelson.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 27th at 2:00 p.m. at Holly Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Calvin Moore officiating, and burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery East, on Torrington Rd, Laurens with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends Saturday July 26th from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M at Gray Funeral Home.
